Jasper Volunteer Fireman Recognized as Paul Harris Fellow

By Gene Kuntz

Jasper - Jasper Volunteer Firefighter Josh Dooley was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow from the Jasper Rotary club at the department's meeting on Thursday night at the Jasper Fire Department.

Dr. Ann Patterson recognized Dooley and the other Jasper Firemen that responded to her home back in August when she thought she smelled something that wasn't right in her home. Patterson, who lost her sense of smell after contracting COVID-19, thought something just wasn't right.

Dooley, a neighbor of Patterson, responded after she made a call to 911. According to Patterson Dooley encouraged other firemen to stay out on the street because he thought if there was in deed a gas leak the house could explode. Patterson had smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors installed in her home but not a natural gas device.

To become a Paul Harris Fellow someone needs to make a $1,000 donation to rotary in recognition of an individual who demonstrates courage in the line of duty.  Dr. Patterson made that donation to Rotary in Dooley's name.

Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide also recognized all JFD members who serve and protect the city of Jasper. Dooley's Family also surprised Dooley by also attending.
