Jasper Utility Service Board Prepares for Spring Projects

As temperatures plummeted on Monday evening, the Jasper Utility Service Board convened at City Hall. The meeting began with bid openings and quote openings for various utilities services projects. Of particular note, the Wastewater Department received quotes for the Effluent Building HVAC system and roof replacement project.  

In his Manager’s Report for the Gas and Water Department, Tim Doersam sought and received the board’s approval to use an outside vendor for the mailing of Water Quality Reports again this year. Doersam also advised the board about several maintenance items. The drain at Beaver Lake was closed today, March 18 th , and Spring hydrant flushing will begin on April 1 st . 

Wastewater Manager Ed Hollinden received the board’s approval to accept the second lowest quote from Ubelhor’s for the Collection Department quote, as the lowest quote that was previously accepted did not meet specs. Board member Steve Hale presented the Wastewater Committee Report, providing the details pertaining to Resolution #USB 2024-1, which was approved by the board.  

Business Office Manager Ashley Kiefer took a moment at the conclusion of the evening’s business to recognize Customer Service Clerk Mary Huff, who will be retiring after 26 years of service. The board thanked Huff for the many years that she has contributed to the city. Kiefer also reminded attendees of the Special Utility Service Board Meeting that is scheduled for April 5 th at 1:30 to open bids for the Backup Water Supply Project.
