Jasper RDC Authorizes Tech Boost for GJCS

A technology boost is on the way for Greater Jasper schools following this month’s meeting of the Jasper Redevelopment Commission.

After approving the minutes of the previous meeting, the board considered Resolution RDC 2026-5. City Attorney Renee Kabrick explained that this is a resolution of the Jasper Redevelopment Commission, approving funding for an educational technology project and establishing guidelines for future requests. It approves the resolution stemming from the board’s decision to approve a funding request from Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools last month.

Kabrick said it is consistent with the RDC’s discussions concerning the agreement to fund the district’s tablet program for first and third graders and clarifies that they will need to remain in compliance with the requirements with which the funds were provided. In addition, it stipulated that this is not an agreement for annual funding, and that the school district will need to reapply for any future projects. The RDC voted to approve the resolution as presented.

The Commission approved a claim for Baker Tilly Advisory Group for tax increment financing (TIF) services provided from May 13, 2026 to date. This was in the amount of $14,487.59. A second invoice from Baker Tilly, for their work on the Horne property, was approved for $6,792.50. The board also approved a claim from Barnes and Thornburg for legal services regarding the Horne property, in the amount of $7,650.88. The claim from Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools was approved in the amount of $133,800 for the purchase of 600 Chromebooks.

The next regular meeting of the Jasper Redevelopment Commission will be on July 7, 2026.
