Jasper Lions Club Radio Auction Returns for 66th Year
The Jasper Lions Club will bring its Annual Radio Auction back to the airwaves this month for
the fundraiser’s 66th year.
The Jasper Lions Club uses proceeds from the event to support those in need throughout
Dubois County. Club President Cory Mueth explained, “Jasper Lions Club is focused on serving
our community, especially when it comes to helping people with vision and eye care needs. The
radio auction is one of the biggest ways we raise funds that allow us to continue doing that. The
money raised stays focused on helping people right here in Jasper and Dubois County through
things like vision screening, eyeglass assistance, and other community programs we do along
the way. It gives us the resources to turn our mission into something that directly helps local
families.” The club also uses the funds for community improvement projects, scholarships, and
assistance for families in need.
The auction will be held at the Dubois County Museum and can be heard live at 5:30 pm from
Sept. 14-17 on WITZ, 104.7 FM. From Monday through Thursday, listeners will be able to bid on
a wide array of donated items while supporting the community. According to Jasper Lions Club
records, the first Radio Auction was held Sept. 17-21 in 1961. The event has since become one
of the area’s longest-running fundraisers.
Gene Kuntz will reprise his role as auctioneer, keeping WITZ listeners updated throughout the
fast-paced bidding process. Bids can be placed in person at the museum, or listeners can call in
their bids at 812-482-5955 during auction hours. Lions Club volunteers will take calls and relay
bids to the auction board, with sales announced live on the air. Winning bidders can pick up
their purchases during auction hours or Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The club is accepting donations for the auction. Local businesses and individuals can contribute
goods, services, gift certificates, or monetary donations. Organizers stress that the success of
the auction depends on the generosity of the community. As Mueth puts it, “Community
support is everything. We simply could not have a successful auction without the generosity of
local businesses, organizations, volunteers, and everyone who calls in to bid. It truly takes
everyone to make this such a successful event for our community.” So remember to tune in to
