ISP CONDUCTS ADDITIONAL PATROLS FOR LITTLE 500 WEEKEND
The Indiana State Police worked tirelessly during the “Little 500 Weekend” to prevent crime, maintain order, serve victims, and safeguard our roads and highways throughout the Bloomington District. Local Troopers were supported by other ISP Sections to include Drug Enforcement, both uniformed and non-uniformed, Collaborative Policing, SWAT, and Aviation.
These Troopers initiated 430 stops while issuing 198 citations and 368 warnings for traffic violations. Eight of the traffic stops resulted in operating while intoxicated investigations and arrests. Troopers conducted investigations into criminal violations, resulting in twenty-nine (29) criminal charges of which eight (8) were for felonies. Criminal violations included trespassing at the Star Quarry, located on Dillman Road, crowd control and assessments at several properties in Monroe and Lawrence Counties, a foot pursuit on North College Avenue, a vehicle pursuit on I-69 from the Third Street overpass to the 113-mile marker, and the seizure of firearms.
Troopers also conducted two serious crash investigations on Saturday. The first was a personal injury crash involving a motorcycle on SR 45 that is believed to have a causation factor due to increased traffic in the area because of a large unapproved event at a local park. The second crash resulted in fatality and serious bodily injuries after a vehicle came to a stop in part of the roadway of I-69 at the 133-mile marker, south of Martinsville. That vehicle, occupied by five (5) individuals, was struck by at least one other vehicle, resulting in the closure of the northbound and southbound lanes and the evacuation of three trauma victims to two Indianapolis hospitals by medical helicopter. All crashes are still under investigation and pending toxicology results.
Troopers, while patrolling downtown early Sunday morning, responded to the sounds of gunshots in the Kirkwood Avenue and Dunn Street area. Local troopers along with SWAT members and our Aviation section assisted with crowd control and securing crime scenes for the Bloomington Police Department.
The Indiana State Police worked all weekend long to prevent crime, maintain order, serve victims, and safeguard our roads and highways.
