Indiana State Police Investigating Suspected Shooting, Vehicle Crash in Washington County

Indiana State Police detectives from the Sellersburg Post are investigating an apparent shooting and vehicle crash that resulted in one fatality Saturday evening in rural Washington County.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, along with local first responders and fire personnel, responded to an automated vehicle‑crash alert in the 8000 block of South Big Springs Road, located about nine miles south of Salem. After arriving on scene, deputies requested assistance from the Indiana State Police.

Indiana State Police detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded and began the initial investigation. Evidence was collected at the scene, and detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to both the shooting and the subsequent vehicle crash. The investigation remains in its earliest stages.

At this time, investigators have no information indicating any ongoing danger to the public. Detectives are continuing efforts to identify and interview all individuals involved.

One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending further investigation; however, next of kin have been notified.
