ICAC INVESTIGATION RESULTS IN ARREST OF BLOOMINGTON MAN
An investigation into the dissemination of harmful matter to a minor initiated in Tennessee has resulted in the arrest of a Bloomington man.
The Elizabethton Police Department, in Tennessee, contacted the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in early May and advised a male subject had engaged in sexual conversation with a female child and forwarded sexually explicit images. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received the complaint and determined the male subject, later identified as Hunter B. Vires, Age 24, resided in Bloomington. The investigation was transferred to Indiana State Police ICAC Detective Robert Whyte.
During his investigation, Whyte learned Vires was employed as a teacher at an Indianapolis school. The Elizabethton Police Department had forwarded evidence to Whyte including conversations of a sexual nature between Vires and the female child victim through the social media platform Snapchat.
On Wednesday, June 3rd, multiple agencies within the Indiana ICAC Task Force met to serve search warrants to collect further evidence. Detective Whyte learned Vires was located at a residence in Northern Indiana and with assistance from the Indiana State Police’s Technical Services Unit Vires was found and arrested without incident. Bloomington Police Department ICAC Detectives and forensic examiners from ISP’s Digital Forensics Unit served a search warrant at Vires’ Bloomington residence.
Vires was transported from Northern Indiana to the Monroe County Jail, where his custody was transferred on the following initial charge:
35-49-3-3: Dissemination of Matter Harmful to Minors, a Level 6 Felony
Additional charges are pending in Tennessee and Indiana, and agencies assisting in the investigation included the following: ISP Digital Forensics Unit, ISP Technical Services Unit, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department ICAC Section, the Bloomington Police Department ICAC Section, the Fulton County Sheriff Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Elizabethton Police Department.
