Huntingburg RDC Prepares for Upcoming Resolutions

At their February meeting, the Huntingburg Redevelopment Commission made preparations for resolutions that will soon be brought before the board.

After the minutes from the January 20 meeting were approved, the board reviewed a series of claims. Docket claims of $41,873 and a non-docket amount of $225 were both authorized. These included a payback to the general fund, Utility Association for the TIF, and expenses for the police department like in-car video.

At the next meeting, the Commission will address resolutions that are passed for each of the economic development areas in each of the city’s allocation funds. This is being completed earlier than in the past so that paperwork can be sent by certified mail to all the overlapping taxing jurisdictions.

The next agenda item concerned the OFS Plant 18 building expansion project. The new space was planned for the north of the existing plant in order to enhance the new manufacturing equipment installed in Plant 18. OFS had requested that the RDC approved a TIF bond to fund the project. If they are able to get their information and notices assembled in time, the confirmatory resolution for the amendment to the Industrial Park Allocation area may be ready for consideration.

In the public comments, a Huntingburg resident addressed the solar moratorium enacted by the City Council on October 25. She said that the moratorium was enforced with the intention of reviewing and updating the Huntingburg UDO for development standards with respect to solar panels. The resident inquired if there had been any progress to that end. The board explained that the RDC is not involved in that process, since it is not in any of the TIF districts. The Plan Commission will be reviewing potential adjustments beginning next week, with guidance from the Council.

The next scheduled meeting date is March 3, which marks the first meeting on the new regular schedule of the first Tuesday of each month.
