Ferdinand Town Council Blazes a Path for the Future
At their Tuesday night board meeting, the Ferdinand Town Council moved forward with multiple
projects aimed at supporting growth, improving safety, and addressing infrastructure needs.
A public hearing was held for an awarding recommendation for a public-private agreement. The
selected vendor will complete a public utility infrastructure project to support a new residential
development for the Ironwood TIF. Two proposals were received, and both were reviewed. Seufert
Construction, working with Morley Corp (which offers architecture, engineering, and surveying
services), was identified as the best option. Since it is a local company, officials expect that it will be
more accessible and responsive, and the recommendation was made to accept their proposal. With no
public comment, the hearing was closed. The board voted to pass Resolution 2026-08 to award the
Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement to Seufert.
HWC Engineering presented the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to the
board for consideration. They were able to identify projects and strategies by analyzing public input
and data findings, particularly crash reports. In addition to recognizing patterns and areas of concern,
the primary purpose of the planning stage is to qualify for funding opportunities. By being able to
present data and multiple options to resolve identified issues, the town will be able to apply for grants
to implement recommended actions. The board voted to sign the resolution, adopting the plan.
The board heard that the town’s Pista grit removal system is down. This system removes grit from
wastewater, preventing it from accumulating in equipment and extending service life. Options for
repairing and replacing the existing system are being explored. President Kenneth Sicard said this will
be a major budget item, so a special meeting will be required. A quote will be needed for IDEM, so a
deadline extension may have to be requested.
The board discussed the Johnson trail grant and determined the next step would be for Brosmer to
survey the donated property and to secure the easements. The trail is one of the first priority projects
for the SS4A project, so officials agreed that pre-planning should begin and quotes should be secured.
Work is scheduled to begin on June 22 for the CCMG 2026-02 project awarded to Knies Construction.
The intersection at East 14 th Street and Indiana will be evaluated as a possible four-way stop, with
proposed implementation before the school year.
Residents are reminded that pets need to be leased at all park properties, without exception, including
fenced in areas. Fields are not to be used as dog parks, due to sanitation concerns for children playing.
Property and Street Department Superintendent Eric Rahman also discussed some problems with trash
pickup. By ordinance, trash cannot be put out earlier than the morning of pickup because of animal
activity. If the issue continues, the department may have to discuss refusing pickup at locations where
the trash has been pulled from its container.
