Ferdinand Town Council Approves New Residential TIF, Selects Community Crossings Project Contractor

At a Special Meeting convened by the Ferdinand Town Council, officials advanced new road and housing infrastructure projects.

Bids were opened for the Community Crossings Matching Grant 2026-01. After not being selected as a CCMG grant recipient in the first round, Ferdinand had another opportunity in the next awarding round. After selecting the bidder and completing all documentation, INDOT will be notified. If the town is early enough in the process, they will be awarded funds.

The three bids received were reviewed and recommendations were made before the close of the meeting. The low bid, submitted by Koberstein Contracting, did not submit their bid number on State form 96, so it could not be certified and had to be rejected. The recommendation was to award the bid to Knies Construction, the next lowest bidder with a complete application. Based on the analysis of submitted bids, Knies Construction was selected as the preferred contractor for the Community Crossings Matching Grant program. The contract will be awarded contingent on INDOT confirming the town’s eligibility for grant funds.

The board passed Resolution 2026-03 as presented, approving the creation of Residential Housing Allocation Area. President Kenneth Sicard said that multiple meetings had preceded the decision, reviewing the project in detail. The resolution had previously been approved by the Plan Commission and the Redevelopment Commission. This designated and declared the Ironwood Residential Economic Improvement Area, also known as the Ironwood Residential Economic Development Area.
