Ferdinand RDC Recommends Local Contractor to Town Council

At their last meeting, the Ferdinand Redevelopment Commission reviewed proposals for a public utility infrastructure project.

These were for a public utility infrastructure project to support a new residential development. The meeting was facilitated by the town’s attorney, Thomas Pitman, and consultant Greg Martz. Martz was selected by the Town Council last month as a Development Consultant for the Ironwood TIF project. He will assist the town in fulfilling the requirements to construct the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) as part of the TIF.

Martz said the recommended response is a local contractor that is also working on the housing development. This is expected to improve efficiency since the local contractor will be familiar with the project and the area. Since they will already be on site, this would also eliminate the town having to pay more than one mobilization fee.

The RDC said that the call for proposals had four specific requirements that interested contractors had to provide:
1. Examples of their previous work showing their experience developing similar public projects
2. Materials to demonstrate their ability and capacity to perform the work, as supported by references
3. Their approach to developing the project
4. Proposed fees during the scoping period

Two proposals were received and reviewed by the RDC, and both were seriously considered. The Committee was in agreement that the local company is preferred because of their proximity as well as positive past experiences. The RDC voted to recommend Seufert Construction, working with Morley, to the Town Council as the selected contractor for the utility and infrastructure project. Following the recommendation, the Council will hold a public hearing on June 16.
