Felon Arrested for Firing Gun in Neighborhood

At approximately 8:24 pm on Wednesday, February 25th , Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) patrol deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress in the 3500 block of Cannonade Loop North in the Thoroughbred Acres subdivision. The initial complaint was received by a neighbor who reported that a male subject was outside the home armed with a rifle and that she had heard a gunshot and yelling.

Upon arrival deputies located the subject who advised that 5 suspects had broken into his home and then fled the area on foot and that he had fired a shotgun at them (the reported rifle turned out to be a shotgun) striking one. Deputies began searching the area and investigating the burglary but quickly determined that there was no evidence of a burglary and that the male subject may have been experiencing a mental health episode as he retold the story several times with many different details but no evidence to support the events. Regarding the shot he claimed to have fired, several nearby witnesses confirmed hearing it. There were no reported injuries or property damage located.

During the investigation it was confirmed that the subject was a convicted felon and prohibited by law from possessing a firearm. He was arrested and taken to the Daviess County Detention Center and a crisis intervention report was completed. Dyer’s previous felony charges include Manslaughter, Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Persistent Felony Offender, Fleeing Police, and multiple theft and drug offenses.
