Family Roots Nursery Invites Community to "Adopt a Senior" This Christmas Through 6th Annual Poinsettias with a Purpose Campaign

This Christmas, a local family-owned business is reminding the community that sometimes the smallest gestures can make the biggest difference.

For the sixth consecutive year, Family Roots Nursery, Inc., located in Dale, Indiana, is launching its annual "Poinsettias with a Purpose" campaign, inviting individuals, families, churches, organizations, and businesses to "Adopt a Senior" for just $10.

Each $10 sponsorship provides a beautiful Christmas poinsettia to a resident of a local nursing home or assisted living facility. But what makes this initiative especially meaningful is Family Roots Nursery's commitment to match every single sponsorship with an additional donated poinsettia, doubling the number of seniors who receive a holiday surprise.


One $10 sponsorship. Two poinsettias. Two seniors reminded that someone cares.


"We started this program six years ago because we wanted to find a simple way to spread kindness during the Christmas season," said Andrea Peters, co-owner of Family Roots Nursery. "Over the years, we've learned just how much something as simple as a poinsettia can mean to someone. For some of these residents, it may be the only unexpected Christmas gift they receive. Knowing that we can help brighten their holiday makes every bit of effort worthwhile."

Reaching Those Who Need Christmas Cheer Most

Unlike a traditional holiday plant sale, Poinsettias with a Purpose focuses on reaching seniors who may otherwise be overlooked during the busy holiday season.

Family Roots Nursery works directly with several area nursing homes and assisted living facilities to identify residents who could benefit from an uplifting surprise. This may include individuals with limited family nearby, residents who seldom receive visitors, or those who could simply use an extra reason to smile.

Sponsors may also request that their poinsettia be delivered to a specific resident at a participating facility by including the recipient's name and facility information when placing their order.

All facility deliveries are coordinated by Family Roots Nursery at no additional charge, with deliveries scheduled during the week of December 21.

"These are the generations who helped build our communities, raised our families, worked in our businesses, and supported our schools," Peters added. "We believe they deserve to know they haven't been forgotten, especially at Christmas."

Local Businesses Invited to Help Double the Impact

This year, Family Roots Nursery is extending a special invitation to fellow local businesses to become community partners in the initiative.

Businesses can sponsor multiple residents, with Family Roots Nursery matching each sponsored poinsettia.

A $100 business sponsorship, for example, results in 20 seniors receiving Christmas poinsettias. A $500 sponsorship spreads Christmas cheer to 100 residents.

"As small business owners, we understand the importance of giving back to the communities that support us throughout the year," Peters said. "We would love to see businesses, churches, civic organizations, families, and individuals come together to make this our biggest year yet. When we work together, even a small contribution can make a tremendous impact."

How the Community Can Participate

Sponsorships are available now through December 18, 2026, for $10 each.

Those who prefer to personally deliver a poinsettia may also purchase one through the program as a cash-and-carry gift at the nursery.

The sponsorship deadline is December 18, with complimentary deliveries to participating care facilities scheduled for the week of December 21.
