End of Watch: Retired ISP K-9 Boomer
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Indiana State Police K-9 Boomer on October 25, 2026.
Boomer faithfully served the Indiana State Police from 2014 to 2022, protecting our communities, assisting fellow officers, and making a lasting impact on public safety.
Throughout his career, Boomer compiled an impressive record of service:
After years of faithfully serving others, Boomer finally got to enjoy being spoiled.
Boomer was more than a police K-9. He was a loyal partner, a trusted protector, and most importantly, a beloved member of his family. His service will not be forgotten, and neither will the memories he leaves behind.
A Special Thank You
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Evansville Police Department Officer John Montgomery and his family; Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Schmidt and Deputy Sanders; and Jessica Hewig with Stone Ridge Veterinary for their compassion, support, and assistance with Boomer’s burial at the Evansville FOP PAL Camp. Their kindness and willingness to help during such a difficult time meant a great deal to Boomer’s family.
In Boomer’s memory, anyone wishing to make a contribution is encouraged to support Oliver’s Heroes, a nonprofit that helps cover medical expenses and provide food for retired police K-9s. These four-legged heroes spend their careers protecting our communities, and they deserve our continued care in retirement.
