Dubois County Unveils Major Infrastructure Projects with Six-Figure Savings

County Highway Engineer Levi Leffert provided an update on the substantial upcoming projects slated for Dubois County roadways.

In his public comments, Leffert said a contract for Bridge 78 has been awarded to Blankenberger Brothers, which specializes in regional bridge and highway construction. A schedule will be released as soon as it is available from the contractor.

An addendum was added to design services performed by American Structurepoint for Bridge 78. Leffert said that he received input from multiple contractors when the project went out for bid, and he looked into the suggestions. Modifications to the design were approved with an additional $5000 appropriation. Leffert said he found that implementing the suggested design changes resulted in significant savings for the county, estimated at over $100,000 in construction costs.

In an upcoming project, the beams and deck will be replaced on Bridge 199 at Club Road. Repairs will be completed in-house and will begin in late March or early April. A five-to-six-week closure is expected. The department aims to complete work before the paving of Club Road, which will be done on or after June 1. C&R Construction was also awarded a contract to complete bridge deck overlays on Bridges 107 and 240. Work is expected to begin in Spring or early summer.

Funds have been received from INDOT for Community Crossings project 2026-01, at just over $902,000. While the county was approved for $1 million, estimates came back lower than expected, resulting in the lowered amount. All planned projects will still be completed, but with notable savings to the state of almost $100,000.
