Dubois County Road Update
As Dubois County concludes its scheduled work on roads and bridges for 2025, plans are
already underway for the coming year.
In a public update, County Engineer Levi Leffert said that the maximum $1 million allotment
was awarded by INDOT in Community Crossings grant funds. This will cover approximately 80%
of the paving costs for Club Road, St. Anthony Road North and 550 West. Work will be
completed from June through October 2026. Projects will be advertised for bid by the end of
2025. The next round of applications will be opened in June 2026.
For the last several weeks, bridge crews have been working to replace the beams and deck on
Bridge 21, located along 200 West. That work is complete, at the road was reopened to traffic
at the end of last week. Repairs for Bridge 116 on County Road 820 East were planned for this
year, but will be rescheduled due to inclement weather and reduced staffing. A date has not
been determined at this time.
The County’s application for federal funds through the Bridge Safety Improvement Project has
moved to the next approval level. INDOT notified Dubois County officials that the application
will be presented to the scoring committee for further consideration. Final awarding
notification is expected by the end of January.
The ADA transition plan agreement with Lochmueller Group was approved this week for a lump
sum not to exceed $50,000. The updated plan will ensure that the County stays in compliance
with ADA requirements and also maintains eligibility for state and federal funds. Leffert
explained, “This plan will allow the county to focus on identifying and removing barriers, simply
for those with disabilities to increase accessibility.”
