Dubois County Highway Department Pushes Forward on Planned Projects

County Highway Superintendent Donnie Lueken said the department will begin treating roads with Rejuvtec in mid-to-late October. Actual repair scheduling dates will be determined as weather permits. The department is also looking for a new Huntingburg dumpster site. The owner of the current site has expressed a desire to build a home on the property within the next couple of years, so potential land purchases are being considered for a site relocation. 

County Highway Engineer Levi Leffert also provided an update on the status of current paving projects. County Roads 925 South and 950 South have both been completed, with 450 North next on the list. Club Road is scheduled for paving in October. 

Rejuvtec took core samples from roads that were paved with its product last year, as well as untreated roads for comparison. Lab testing indicated that treated roads exceeded the expected values. Leffert said that he prefers to see data-driven results, and these findings support the continued use of the product. 
 

The county’s Community Crossing application has been submitted to INDOT. The official application window closes at the end of September. Funding approvals are usually announced anywhere from one to three months after that time. 

Crews are completing repairs at Bridge 183 on Schnellville Road. After that, they will move to 700 East, where they will install a retaining wall to prevent water encroachment on the road from a nearby creek. The next slated project is at Cuzco North Road to complete a box culvert replacement, followed by Hilham Road South for a cast in place box culvert installation.
