Dubois County Health Department and Indiana DNR Partner to Offer Free Water Safety Training for Families

The Dubois County Health Department is partnering with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to offer a free Water Safety Training course for school-aged children and their families on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The training will be held at the Dubois County Health Department, located at 1187 S. Saint Charles Street in Jasper, with participants able to choose between two identical sessions:
 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The course is open to Dubois County residents with children ages 5–18 and is designed to help families stay safe in and around the water during the summer months. Participants will learn about Indiana water safety laws, boating and open water safety, pool safety, and other important water safety practices.

As an added bonus, each child who completes the course will receive a free life jacket while supplies last.

"Water safety education plays a vital role in preventing injuries and saving lives," said Shawn Werner, Administrative Director at the Dubois County Health Department. "By teaching children and families safe practices around pools, lakes, and other waterways, we hope to give them the knowledge and confidence to enjoy the water safely."

Registration is required by Friday, July 24, 2026, and space is limited. Families can register online at www.duboiscountyin.org or call the Dubois County Health Department at 812-481-7050 for more information.
