Dubois County Drainage Board Appointed at Annual Meeting

On Monday morning, the Dubois County Drainage Board convened for its annual meeting to install officers and review the report for 2025. In its first agenda item, the yearly reorganization of the Drainage Board was addressed. The slate of officers was approved, re-appointing the same members as in the previous year. The board for 2026 will consist of: Chad Blessinger, President; Serice Stenftenagel, Vice President; Sandra Morton, Secretary; and County Surveyor Kenneth Brosmer, Ex-Oficio. The board was maintained by unanimous vote.

The minutes from the January 21, 2025 Drainage Board meeting were approved as presented. Brosmer submitted his report to the board, which reviewed activity for 2025. Brosmer described the outgoing year as a quiet one, overall, for the department. He said that some inquiries from residents in the past year have involved solar projects. Others involved ditches and whether or not they would be considered a legal drain. Many of those requests came from the State Highway Department, especially in connection to roadway projects. Brosmer and Blessinger reviewed two small incidents from the last year, both of which were minor and had achieved resolution without intervention from the board. Dubois County still has ten legal drains.

Brosmer said that many counties have numerous drains to maintain and oversee, saying, “a lot of counties in the state have a lot of draining in the flatter counties or along a river. Drainage is important. But with our terrain, not so much, It’s a few drains on the White River watershed and the Patoka watershed.” He described the condition in Dubois County as “moving right along.”

With no further business, the meeting was closed for the year. The next meeting will be held January 4, 2027.
