Dubois County Awards Ambulance Remount Bid

Dubois County EMS is getting its emergency vehicles ready for long term service.

Bids to remount an ambulance chassis were received earlier this month from three companies. They were taken under advisement by Dubois County Ambulance Services Director Ryan Young, who reviewed the bids for completeness. One submission, from Emergency Vehicles Plus, did not meet the bid requirements. The two remaining bids for consideration were from McQueen Emergency for $298,698 and American Response Vehicles for $276,600.

The county has had positive experiences with both companies that submitted bids meeting required specifications. McQueen performed the department’s last two truck remounts, and Dubois County purchased their new ambulances from American Response. Young recommended that the low bid be accepted, and the contract was awarded to American Response Vehicles for $276,600.

The remount project is intended to prolong the lifespan of the department’s emergency vehicles. Its objective is to provide an additional 100,000 miles of service over a two-year period. Because of ongoing delays in vehicle delivery, new ambulances will still be ordered to ensure they are available when required. Indiana statewide data from 2024 shows an approximate, overall ambulance response time of about 11 minutes, though this average makes significant disparity between urban and rural regions. In certain rural areas, ambulance response time can be 17-30 minutes. A properly maintained ambulance fleet shows a direct, positive correlation to life-saving ability through a reduced ambulance response time.
