Dubois County Awarded Community Crossing Grant

Dubois County has received notification of approved funding from INDOT’s Community Crossings program.

A Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) was awarded in the amount of $319,064.75. These funds will cover approximately 80% of the costs for the paving of County Road 300 North/36 th Street from 500 West to the Jasper city limits, which is about 2.38 miles. It will also cover approximately 80% of the costs for the paving of Mill Street from 400 North to Jasper city limits, which is about 0.87 miles. The county will be responsible for the remaining 20%. There were three additional roads included in the application, but the state’s award was half of the amount requested by the county. They will be considered at a later date for potential in-house funding.

The County also received $378,334.22 from the Lane Mile Direct Distribution (LMDD) fund earlier in the year. The LMDD and CCMG funds awarded a combined total of $697,398.97, resulting in a shortfall of just over $300,000 from the maximum $1 million funding. Historically, the county has been awarded the maximum in funding.

A comprehensive list of award amounts released by INDOT shows that the county’s award was still one of the highest awards by percentage requested, but county officials noted that the state’s reduction of overall funding available will inform their decisions going forward. For 2026, the INDOT program will have $109 million available to fund awards for the state. In 2025, the program had $200 million available. In 2024, it had $347 million, and had over $200 million available in each of the two years preceding that. The county will prioritize road maintenance using chip seal and crack seal to preserve the existing roadways and avoid costly repairs.
