Dubois County Accident remains under investigation

On May 20, 2026, at approximately 6:04 PM, deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Road 64 west of State Road 161.

Upon arrival, deputies located a white Ford pickup truck positioned sideways in the roadway. A second vehicle had left the roadway and came to rest down an embankment. 

The driver of the second vehicle was trapped inside the vehicle. Two juvenile passengers had already been removed by first responders and were receiving medical attention at the scene.During the investigation, emergency personnel advised deputies that the driver of the second vehicle had succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the second vehicle was identified as 36-year-old Dana Strohmeyer of Jasper. Family notifications have been made. 

Indiana State Police crash reconstructionist responded to assist with the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the white Ford pickup truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic prior to the collision.

Two juveniles from the second vehicle were transported to Deaconess Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the white Ford pickup truck was identified as 37-year-old Nathan P. Simpson of Evanston. During the on-scene investigation, deputies conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on observations made during the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for blood and urine samples.

Simpson has been charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Resulting in Death, a Level 4 Felony. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

The Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Indiana State Police, Huntingburg Fire Department, Deaconess EMS and Sternberg’s Wrecker Service.
