DUBOIS CIRCUIT COURT JUDGE NATHAN VERKAMP SEEKING RE-ELECTION
Nathan Verkamp has announced he will run for re-election to the office of the Dubois Circuit
Court. Judge Verkamp has presided over the Dubois Circuit Court since January 1, 2015.
During his time in office, Verkamp graduated from the Indiana Judicial College, taught criminal
justice at Vincennes University Jasper Campus, was a member of the Indiana Judiciary’s
Criminal Law Policy Committee, has been a lecturer at state conferences, and volunteered his
time at local schools. He is a member and past president of the Dubois County Bar Association,
member of the Indiana Bar Association, member of the Indiana Judges Association and member
of the Indiana Juvenile Judges Association. He also belongs to many local civic organizations
and is a parishioner at St Mary of the Annunciation in Ireland.
Verkamp resides in Ireland with his wife, Jody. They have three children.
After enlistment in the United States Navy, he graduated from Indiana University and the
McKinney School of Law. Following law school, Verkamp ran a successful private law practice.
Verkamp is proud of his record as a steady, dependable leader. “My goal is to always be guided
by the rule of law and common sense,” Verkamp said. “I am not a rubber stamp for anyone, only
beholden to the law and facts. I have not been, nor will I be, swayed by political pressure or
public clamor. I strive to ensure that all parties coming before the court are permitted to be fully
heard so that, regardless the outcome, no one feels they were not afforded a full and fair
opportunity to present their case.”
Verkamp presides over one of the busiest rural courts in Indiana. He has taken measures to
ensure cases are heard in a timely manner, yet finding time to guide programs within the county
to help endangered adults and children, ensuring victims’ safety, and reducing recidivism.
There are few promises a judge can make. “The promise I will make is to always work hard for
the people of Dubois County,” Verkamp said. “I live here and have a vested interest in making
Dubois County the best and safest community possible. I will always strive to be fair,
compassionate, and treat people with the dignity they deserve, yet be firm when required.”
“I feel as if I am really hitting my stride as a trial judge, and I am excited to continue serving my
fellow citizens.” Verkamp said. “I was humbled by the overwhelming show of support that I
received in my last election and hope voters continue to find me deserving of their support.”
