Driver Totals Vehicle, Catching Fire, in U.S. 231 Construction Area with Blood Alcohol Level Nearly Five Times Legal Limit

Jasper - Tuesday night, an impaired driver travelled through a construction area on U.S. 231, where his car caught fire and he tested at nearly five times the legal alcohol limit.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jasper Police Department, along with the Jasper Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire at the intersection of St Charles and Truman Road. 

When officers arrived on scene it was determined that Johnathan Hunsicker, 40, of Dale, had driven through the construction area on us 231 between HRJ Lane and Division Rd. Hunsicker was able to drive the vehicle to the intersection before vehicle had caught on fire. 

Hunsicker was treated by EMS on scene and then taken to Memorial Hospital reference chemical test where he tested .38, nearly five times the legal limit of .08.

Hunsicker was lodged into the Dubois County Security Center and charged with: OWI with prior conviction (level 6 felony), OWI ( C misdemeanor), OWI endangerment (A misdemeanor), OWI with BAC over .15 (A misdemeanor).
