Disabled Veterans Property Tax Credit Forms Now Available

Disabled Hoosier veterans fought hard to protect our country, the freedoms we cherish and our way of life. That's why I supported a new law to help lower the cost of living for disabled veterans and their families.

House Enrolled Act 1210 provides a 100% deduction on homestead property taxes for totally disabled veterans in our state. That means veterans with a total disability will not pay property taxes on their home starting in 2027, saving Hoosier veterans more than $27 million each year.

This benefit is also given to the surviving spouse of a totally disabled veteran as long as they don't remarry.

Veterans and their surviving spouses can now start applying for the credit by filling out a State Form 12662. To receive the deduction for 2027, the form must be received by the local county auditor's office no later than Jan. 15, 2027. After a person is approved as eligible for this deduction, they will automatically continue to receive it each year without re-applying as long as they remain eligible.

If you have any questions about the credit or application process, you are encouraged to contact your local county veterans service officer.
