On Saturday, February 7 th at approximately 10:48 pm, a Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) patrol vehicle and a 2007 Pontiac passenger car collided at the intersection of East 4 th and Triplett Streets. Both the driver and passenger of the Pontiac were taken by ambulance to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital (OHRH) for treatment of possible injuries. The DCSO patrol deputy was taken by a patrol vehicle to OHRH and was also treated for possible injuries. All three were treated and released with minor injuries.

At the time of the collision, the DCSO deputy was enroute to assist a Kentucky State Police (KSP) Trooper who was actively engaged in a foot pursuit with multiple suspects who had fled from a vehicle that KSP had been in a vehicle pursuit with moments earlier. The deputy was southbound in the 300 block of Triplett Street with his patrol car’s lights and siren activated as he approached East 4 th Street. The Pontiac passenger car was eastbound on East 4 th Street and both vehicles collided in the intersection.

“This was an unfortunate situation, and I am relieved it wasn’t worse than it was. It is never our intention as law enforcement to cause damage or harm and I am grateful to all the first responders, dispatchers and investigators who responded in various ways with professionalism and urgency to assist,” said Sheriff Brad Youngman.

At the request of DCSO, the Owensboro Police Department is investigating the circumstances of the crash due to a DCSO vehicle being involved. The roadway was closed for approximately 45 minutes while the scene was cleared. In addition to DCSO and OPD, the Owensboro Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Service responded to the collision.
