City of Huntingburg Water Department Flushing Hydrants.

The City of Huntingburg’s Water Department is conducting citywide hydrant flushing beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2026. This process will take approximately a month. Flushing times will typically be Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm.

Flushing is performed to improve water quality and is a necessary preventative maintenance activity for proper waterline function. During the Fall flushing program, the Water Department will also complete ISO hydrant flow testing and readings. Crews will collect static and residual pressure readings, along with flow data, from each hydrant throughout the system.

The information collected plays an important role for the Huntingburg Fire Department during emergency operations and is also used as part of the City’s ISO evaluations. Maintaining accurate hydrant data and a properly maintained water distribution system can contribute to keeping insurance rates lower for the community. It also helps to provide a better overall water service for our customers.

Water will remain safe to drink; however, special care and attention is recommended, especially before doing laundry.  Customers are advised to run cold water through their taps for five to seven minutes to clear any discoloration in the water that may adversely affect laundry items.  The City of Huntingburg is not responsible for the cleaning and/or replacement of those items.
