Two Arrested In Church Burglary, Many Other Felonies

PERRY CO. --  Indiana State Police, Perry County Sheriffs Department and Tell City Police Departments worked together on 4-24-18 to locate and arrest Darryl C. Gutshall, 40, Stanley, VA  and Aerial A. Morgans, 22, Greenville, VA

Initially, on 4-23-18, the Perry County Sheriffs Department had received a report of a suspicious vehicle that was abandoned in the Bristow area. PCSD units arrived but were unable to locate any suspect/s in the immediate area. Deputies were able to determine the vehicle was stolen from Virginia.

4-24-18, An unrelated call came in to the PCSD, reporting two suspicious subjects were inside the Bristow United Pentecostal Church.

Tell City Police Officer Bryce Hammack located Gutshall & Morgans walking on State Road 145 near the church. Indiana State Police Master Trooper Trey Lytton arrived moments later and assisted Hammack in detaining both subjects

Master Trooper Lytton through his investigation was able to determine that Gutshall & Morgans abandoned the stolen vehicle from Virginia after it became stuck in the mud.

Gutshall and Morgans had also attempted to steal another vehicle in the Bristow area on the night of 4-23-18, but were unsuccessful.

Gutshall and Morgans were in possession of numerous stolen items from the church and illegal narcotics.

During a protective sweep of the church Lytton located a used, uncapped, hypodermic needle in the bathroom that later tested positive for Methamphetamine.

Gutshall & Morgans were arrested and incarcerated at the Perry County Sheriffs Department on the following charges:

Criminal Trespass, 1 Count, IC 35-43-2-2, Class A Misdemeanor

Theft, 1 Count, IC 35-43-4-2, Class A Misdemeanor

Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle, 1 Count, IC 35-43-4-2.7, Class B Misdemeanor
