Celebration of Community: Huntingburg regional Airport Opens new Frosty Jones Terminal
Today, the Huntingburg Regional Airport celebrated the grand opening of the new Frosty Jones Terminal, a project years in the making that promises to support aviation education and enhance community connections.
Pastor David King of Crosspoint Church opened the ceremony with an invocation, expressing gratitude for the establishment, noting, "We pray this would be a place of hospitality for the pilots who come through here. We pray that you would use this building to make them feel welcomed."
Governor Mike Braun addressed the crowd, reminiscing about the project's journey over the past 15 years. "When you look at the over 7.2 million dollars in something like this… to actually create a nucleus for creating future aviators," he said, highlighting the collaboration among federal, local governments, and businesses that made the project possible.
State Senator Daryl Schmitt shared his perspective, mentioning, “I was involved in the initial stages of the process while I was serving as a member of the Dubois County Council, and to now see the project completed is a testament to the hard work of the airport board, Airport Manager Travis McQueen, and all the local elected officials. When we try to lure residents, businesses, and all types of economic development to the area, the Frosty Jones Terminal is a great first impression.”
Ken Schnauss, President of the Dubois County Airport Authority, emphasized the terminal's role in the local economy, stating, "Almost every business or industry in Dubois County is flying planes in and out of here on a regular basis just to bring their salespeople in."
Craig Sloan, grandson of Frosty Jones, shared personal memories of his grandfather's pioneering spirit in aviation, saying, "It is a source of pride and humbleness to be able to share some of his memorabilia on display here in a terminal dedicated to his memory."
Nick from Woolpert, the project's engineering partner, described the terminal as more than just a building. "This facility creates opportunities for aviation education… It serves as a safe gathering space for the public during inclement weather."
Finally, Marcus Dial from the Indiana Department of Transportation highlighted the economic impact of the airport, noting, "This airport creates roughly $20 million in total economic impact each year."
The new terminal not only serves aviation needs but stands as a beacon of growth and community spirit in Dubois County, aiming to inspire future generations in aviation and beyond.
