Celebrate local careers and community at upcoming WVUT-TV video premiere event

Vincennes University's WVUT-TV is launching a powerful new initiative to inspire the community's youth through the premiere of its educational video series, "People in Your Neighborhood."

A free premiere event will take place on Saturday, June 6, starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET) at the Lothian and Red Skelton Gallery of Fine Art at the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy, 20 W. Red Skelton Blvd. Families, educators, and community members of all ages are invited to attend. The community will enjoy a vibrant atmosphere with refreshments and photo opportunities, and all “People in Your Neighborhood” curricula will be on display.

"People in Your Neighborhood" introduces kids to the various helpers and professionals, which includes those they may engage with daily. The premiere will debut the first 25 episodes, each highlighting a different career and featuring artwork of local child artists. Educators and childcare providers will also have the special opportunity to see firsthand how the accompanying curriculum can enrich daycares and classrooms.

WVUT-TV Education and Community Engagement Coordinator Allyson Bowers said, "We are absolutely thrilled to unveil this series to our community. It is all about showing kids the endless possibilities for their futures. I strongly encourage everyone to join us for what promises to be a wonderful evening celebrating our local professionals, empowering our children, and bringing the entire 'Neighborhood' together."

The series covers a wide range of careers, which allows every child to connect with something. People featured include jobs that are mostly outdoors, like a journeyman lineman, and jobs that are both indoors and outdoors, such as robotics engineer and artists. There are also jobs that are mostly indoors, like manufacturing and production line workers, podcasters, museum directors, attorneys, and website designers. By celebrating diversity in experiences and abilities, the series strengthens the vital message that every pathway to success is valued and possible.

The series will be available at wvut.org.

An RSVP for the event is appreciated but not required by emailing Allyson Bowers at [email protected].
