Candidate Filing Period for 2026 Elections Opens in January

The Dubois County Clerk’s Office announced today that the candidate filing period for the 2026 Primary Election will open on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and close at 12:00 noon local time on Friday, February 6, 2026. 

Individuals interested in running for public office in the upcoming election must file their Declaration of Candidacy (CAN-2) form with the Dubois County Clerk’s Office during this time. Forms are available at the Clerk’s Office in the Dubois County Courthouse, located at One Courthouse Square, Jasper, IN 47546, or online through the Indiana Election Division at www.in.gov/sos/elections. 

Candidates for local office may file for offices including: 
 County offices: Circuit Court Judge, Prosecutor, County Clerk, Auditor, Recorder, Sheriff, Commissioner - District 2, County Council – Districts 1, 2, 3 & 4. 
 Township offices: Bainbridge, Boones, Cass, Columbia, Ferdinand, Hall, Harbison, Jackson, Jefferson, Madison, Marion, Patoka Township Trustees and Board members. 
 Precinct Committeemen and State Convention Delegates: Democratic Precinct Committeemen, Republican and Democratic Convention Delegates. 

All candidates must meet the statutory requirements for their respective offices, including age, residency, and voter registration eligibility. 

“The filing period is the first official step for those seeking to serve their communities through public office,” said Amy Kippenbrock, Dubois County Clerk. “We encourage prospective candidates to file early, review all materials carefully, and ensure that their paperwork is complete before the deadline.”
