Board of Finance Approves Accounting Exception for Department of Corrections
The Dubois County Board of Finance convened this week to consider an exception to
general accounting practices.
The minutes of the last meeting on January 20, 2026 were approved as presented.
Gregory Schnarr, who serves as the Dubois County Attorney, then briefed the board on
the lone agenda item for the meeting. The county’s Department of Corrections has a
private income fund that generates interest on an annual basis. Corrections Director
Wyatt Madden confirmed that the expected yearly interest is approximately $75.
In order for that to remain in the Project Income Fund (where it is at present), the Board
of Finance has to approve it as an exception to the general accounting principles.
Schnarr told the board that he drafted Resolution 2026-01 for their consideration.
Schnarr explained, “This is the appropriate board to consider that… Basically, it allows
for an easier bookkeeping process for the amount that’s involved.”
County Treasurer Craig Greulich agreed with the proposed solution. Greulich said that
he had spoken with Madden and this appears to be the simplest way to account for the
additional funds.
The resolution of the local Board of Finance was approved, authorizing exception to the
interest-bearing account rule with Resolution 2026-01. With no comments and no other
business before the board, the meeting was closed.
