BLOOMINGTON DISTRICT TROOPERS RESPOND TO SEVERE WEATHER EMERGENCY
Troopers from the Bloomington District responded to the severe weather emergency on Wednesday, June 17th, as thunderstorms and high winds struck Owen and Monroe counties.
A tornado was confirmed to have touched down in northern Owen County.
Trees and power lines were knocked down, blocking county roadways. Storm damage also led to a road blockage on US231 north of Spencer. Troopers responded to several homes that had sustained damage to check for injuries to residents. I-69 northbound at the 130-mile marker, between Bloomington and Martinsville, was blocked with downed trees for at least an hour. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) worked on clearing both northbound lanes of the debris.
Downed power lines in northern Owen County resulted in the loss of power for Gosport residents. There were no reports of injuries directly reported to the Bloomington District.
Troopers worked with local law enforcement agencies and fire departments, as well as electrical companies, during the severe weather response.
