JASPER -- Traffic trouble plagued the first day of class at the new Jasper Elementary School Wednesday.

School officials say the traffic flow on the first day was double what they expected and planned for at the new facility with more parents opting to drive their kids to school instead of sending them on a bus.

Some parents described waiting in line for nearly two hours to drop their kids off.   The afternoon dismissal also took longer than expected with buses delayed by about 45 minutes.

In a post to social media, officials with Greater Jasper Schools said issues are being ironed out.  They are hoping things will run a bit smoother on Thursday.
