Ascension St. Vincent, Red Cross to host blood drive in honor of Jentry Pace

Ascension St. Vincent is partnering with the American Red Cross Southwest Indiana Chapter to host a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Manor Auditorium.

This blood drive is being held in honor of 5-year-old Jentry Pace of Newburgh. On July 5, Jentry was critically injured in a boating accident at Patoka Lake when he was struck by a boat propeller. Thanks to the quick, lifesaving actions of his father, Ohio Township Fire Department Captain John Pace, and local conservation officers, Jentry survived his injuries. Following multiple surgeries at Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, the 5-year-old recently returned home to continue his recovery. It took over 24 units of blood to save Jentry’s life.

Donors are reminded to bring a valid photo ID, hydrate well, and eat an iron-rich meal before their scheduled appointment time. To thank donors for taking time out of their schedules to give back, anyone who comes to give blood between Sept. 21 and Oct. 18 will receive a $15 e-gift card.
