Area Woman Accused of Drugging and Raping Mentally Ill Man She Was Supposed to be Caring For

BLOOMINGTON -- A caregiver from Mitchell is accused of drugging and raping a Bloomington man she was supposed to be looking after, according to Bloomington Police.

Police arrested April Edwards on two counts of rape and neglect of a dependent, reports WBIW.

The victim told police that Edwards gave him a small blue pill, later identified as an opioid called Roxicodone, and then sexually assaulted him. The victim said he didn't want to take the pill, but said Edwards told him he would get in trouble if he didn't.

Investigators said another small blue pill was later found in a room at the man's home.

According to a police report, Edwards initially told investigators the man raped her. She then said she was so high on prescription drugs that she didn't know what happened, reports WBIW.

Edwards was being held Thursday in the Monroe County Jail.
