A two vehicle crash Thursday sent four individuals to the hospital.

Jasper, IN - Around 11:30am, both vehicles were approaching the intersection of US 231 and SR 162. A 2015 Red Ford Edge being driven by 77 year old Richard Verkamp of St. Anthony had a green light and was proceeding west bound through the intersection. Meanwhile, a 2010 White Chrysler town and Country being driven by 47 year old Kyla Chambers of Jasper travelled through the intersection south bound, running the red light. 


The two vehicles collided in the intersection. All occupants of the vehicles were transported to Memorial Hospital for injuries. While at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center, it was determined that Chambers was under the influence of Methamphetamines, Amphetamines, Cannabinoids, and MDMA. 


Chambers was charged with: CAUSING CATASTROPHIC INJURY WHEN OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH SCHEDULE I OR II CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE IN THE BLOOD (LEVEL 4 FELONY), CAUSING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY WHEN OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH A SCHED. I OR II SUBSTANCE IN THE BLOOD (LEVEL 5 FELONY), OPERATING A VEHICLE WHILE INTOXICATED ENDANGERING A PERSON (A MISDEMEANOR), OPERATING A VEHICLE WITH A SCHEDULE I OR II SUBSTANCE IN BLOOD (C MISDEMEANOR). She was also issued a citation for disregarding a traffic control device. Chambers was cleared medically for jail and was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center. 


The Dubois County Sheriff's office assisted on scene, along with Jasper Fire Department, Memorial EMS, Ruxers Towing and Luegers Towing services.
