A Dozen Grass Fires Sparked by Truck on Schnellville Road Wednesday

SCHNELLVILLE -- A truck driver is to blame for sparking about a dozen grass fires along the right-of-way of Schnellville Road Wednesday.

Firefighters with the Schnellville Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the area around 1:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon after the driver of a truck pulling a trailer hit a culvert, severely damaging his tires.

As the driver continued east at a high rate of speed, sparks from his vehicle ignited multiple fires.Reports show the driver kept going toward Crawford County.

5 firefighters from Schnellville responded with 2 trucks and the assistance of Birdseye fire crews.

They were all on scene for about 30 minutes.

The sheriff’s department is investigating.
