USI Earns Draw in First D1 Exhibition

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - University of Southern Indiana Women's Soccer kicked off their preseason schedule Sunday with a 1-1 result against the University of Missouri Kansas City. The exhibition was USI's first official event as an NCAA Division I program.

The first shot of the match came within the first minute by USI junior forward Alexis Schone (Galena, Ohio) that was saved by Kansas City junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Caldwell. USI had a 1-0 advantage at halftime, as junior forward Morgan Beyer (Rossford, Ohio) scored in the 25th minute on a pass in the box by senior forward Taylor Hall (Grayson, Kentucky).

In the 69th minute, Kansas City tied the match on a rebound attempt scored by junior defender Sophia Limongi.

In net for the Screaming Eagles, senior keeper Maya Etienne (Midland, Michigan) logged 45 minutes with three saves off five shots, while sophomore keeper Zoe Lintner (Wildwood, Missouri) made three saves off five shots in 36 minutes. Senior keeper Emma Sabath (St. Louis, Missouri) played the final nine minutes in goal for USI.

USI Women's Soccer continues their exhibition schedule on the road at the University of Illinois Chicago on Wednesday at 1 p.m. before getting their last preseason tune-up at Murray State University on Saturday at 1 p.m. USI will kick off the regular season at the University of North Dakota on August 18 at 1 p.m.
