Premier Indiana Archery Opens in Evansville Today

Evansville - "The "Duel in the Cornfield" begins today in Evansville.

The North Region Target Championship, also known as “Duel in the Cornfield,” will be held at Goebel Soccer Complex in Evansville, Indiana July 1-3.

This two-day archery tournament kicks off with a new ‘Glow in the Cornfield’ event, a noncompetitive shoot played under the illumination of the field lights after dark, and consisting of three Archer Teams, head-to-head competition established by blind draw. 72 multi-archer events will follow on Saturday and Sunday, with disciplines including Barebow, Collegiate Bowhunter, Longbow, Recurve, Traditional Recurve, and others. This tournament is the only Indiana North Region Outdoor Tournament in the state.

71 archers from Michigan, and Ohio, to Kansas, Nebraska, all the way from North and South Dakota will be competing. Among those competing in the tournament is a 1984 Olympian, the current Collegiate Pins Mixed Team Gold Medalists, and the 2022 Indiana NASP Champion.

Tim Fulton, Director of Facilities at the Evansville Sports Complex, said “We are excited to welcome this unique and well-run tournament back to Evansville for the second time. We look forward to seeing the young archers from the National Archery in Schools Program grow throughout the competition this weekend.”
