Petersburg - In a Wednesday meeting, the Pike Central School Board voted to hire Bo Daves to lead the baseball team, and Dave Pipes to serve as head coach for the softball team.

Daves previously served on the Pike Central baseball coaching staff and spent a two-year tenure as head coach at Wood Memorial. On either side of the 2020 season lost to COVID-19, the Trojans improved from 0-19 in 2019 to 5-15 in 2021 under Daves. Daves currently pitches for the Jasper Reds.

Pipes also had involvement with the Pike Central staff member, as an assistant softball coach for multiple season. Pipes is well known in the Pike Central community, and aids the football and basketball teams as the official bookkeeper.

Pike Central Athletic Director Dustin Powell addressed the selections:

"We need some of those young guys in here so that we can get some continuity with these programs. This is a good start for us for both baseball and softball. We got Pike County guys in both situations, and I think they're going to be here awhile. That's going to help tremendously in both sports."

The 2022-23 Softball Chargers finished the season 18-7 overall and secured Sectional and Regional Championships.

The Charger Baseball team finished last season 6-16 and fell to Vincennes Lincoln in the first round of sectionals.
