Jasper Reds Drub Indy Heat in Saturday Double-Header

Jasper - Strong pitching led the Jasper Reds to back-to-back shut outs of the Indy Heat on Saturday at Ruxer Field.

Both games ended in the 10-run rule, seeing the Jasper Reds outscore the Indy Heat 34-0 over the two contests.

In game one, three recent Jasper High School graduates made an immediate impact in the the Reds' offensive production. Kody Morton led the way as he tripled once and singled twice. Chris Hedinger contributed a triple and a single. Conner Foley added a triple and three walks.

Austin Simmers made it home on an inside-the-park homerun, the first homerun on the year for the Reds.

Veteran righthander Bo Daves, 34, picked up his third win of the season striking out nine and walking one batter over five innings. Daves allowed one hit, a single blooper out of the infield.

It was much of the same with former Jasper Wildcat Conner Foley on the mound. Over four innings of work, Foley fanned seven and walked three in his first win with the club. Matthew Wright was called in to close, holding the Heat scoreless on one hit.

Former Cats Ben Henke and Austin Simmers each had three hits in the outing.

The Reds, now 5-0 on the summer, will face the Terre Haute Bears next Saturday. The Jasper "home" game will be played at Vincennes University on Jerry Blemker Field. The nine-inning game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
