Gene Kuntz

I started working at WITZ on January 3, 1977 as a night time announcer. I eventually became Program Director then Sales and Operations Manager. In September of 2011 I became General Manager, retiring from full-time duties at the end of 2022 and becoming a part time account executive in 2023. I am a Certified Radio Marketing Consultant with (RAB) the Radio Advertising Bureau since 1983. I earned my Radio marketing Master certification from (RAB) the Radio Advertising Bureau in 1995. I became a Certified Digital marketing consultant with (RAB) the Radio Advertising Bureau in February 2008. I was a member of the Country Radio Broadcaster’s Agenda Committee for the Country Radio Seminar from 2009-2011. In 1997 I received recognition from the Radio Advertising Bureau for a Radio Gets Results campaign for Grandy’s Restaurants. In 1993, 1995 and 2012 I received an (IBA) Indiana Broadcasters Association Spectrum Award for Small Market Radio for Best Radio Commercial or Series of Commercials. In 2016 WITZ FM received an (IBA) Spectrum Award for Small Market Station of the Year. Since 2005 I have been a Board Member of the Dubois County Sportsmen’s Club. In 1987 and 1988 I was a member of the Board of Directors of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce. In 1989 I was elected President of the Board of Directors of the Jasper Chamber of Commerce for 1990. I was a member of the Jasper Strassenfest Committee and Advertising Chairman from 1990-2006 and served as Chairman of the Jasper Strassenfest from 2002-2003. I now serve on their Board of Directors. I have been a member of the Lincoln Heritage District of Boy Scouts of America “Distinguished Citizen’s Awards Banquet Committee” since 1992 and served as Chairman of the event from 2000-2002. Since 1984 I have been a life member of Optimist International and have served as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of the Jasper Optimist club. I was also selected as Optimist of the Month three times. In 1983 I was named Billboard Magazine’s “Program Director of the Year” for radio markets under 100,000 population. In 1984 I was chosen one of the “Best Ears in the Business” in the Active Industry Research Contest sponsored by Radio & Records Magazine. 250 of the nation’s top contemporary radio Program Directors and Music Directors competed. Also in 1984 I was awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Jasper Jay Cee’s for outstanding community service. In 1985 I was selected as an outstanding young man of America in recognition of outstanding professional achievement, superior leadership ability and exceptional service to the community. I am an avid hunter and outdoorsman. I enjoy racketball, pickle ball, softball and bicycle riding. I have been married to my wife Phyllis since 1978 and we love spending time with our two grandsons and traveling.
