William O'Neil "Neil" Labhart, age 81 of Jasper

William O'Neil "Neil" Labhart, age 81 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 4:19 a.m. on Monday, December 24, 2018 at his home. 

Neil was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 6, 1937 to William Julius and Agnes Marie (Howell) Labhart.  

He married Mary Catherine "Kate" Schroeder on April 12, 1958 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He was a U.S. Marine veteran.   Neil retired from Breidenbaugh Bros as a diesel mechanic, and then retired from Jasper Engines where he had worked in the warranty department.  He then worked part time for Buffalo Trace Golf Course.   

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, a member of the Jasper Moose Lodge #1175, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, spending time at Beaver Lake, planting flower gardens, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

Surviving is his wife, Mary Catherine "Kate" Labhart of Jasper, one son, William "Dean" Labhart (Brenda) of Jasper, one daughter, LaDonna Werner (Larry) of Ireland, five grandchildren, Brandon Werner, Holly Hynes, Travis Werner, William Labhart, and Leslie Meyer, two step grandchildren, Shanda Phillips and Danielle Wendholt, four great-grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, one step great great grandchild. 

Preceding him in death beside his parents was one sister, Charlotte Cockerham, and one great grandchild Sophie Meyer. 

A Mass of Christian Burial for William O'Neil "Neil" Labhart will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum in Jasper.  

The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites. 

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana. 

 The Jasper  Moose Lodge #1175 will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m.

 Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, or to a favorite charity.
