Roy A. Yocum, age 68 of Schnellville
Roy A. Yocum, age 68 of Schnellville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, January 23, 2020 at home.
Roy was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky to Archie and Ella B. (Snow) Yocum. He was then raised in Dubois County by the Tom and Betty Lechner and the Cleo and Jeanette Dishon families. He married Linda Wehr on November 26, 1977 in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
He was loader operator at several coal mines, most recently United Minerals. He later owned and operated Yocum Trucking and Yocum Excavating before retiring to hobby jobs.
He was a member of the Schnellville Community Club and Schnellville Conservation Club.
He enjoyed rabbit hunting, UTV riding, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy in life.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Yocum of Schnellville, one daughter, Kelly Bieker (Chris), Celestine, one son, Nathan Yocum, Ferdinand, two grandchildren, Cam and Amelia Bieker, his parental guardians, Tom and Betty Lechner of Jasper and Cleo Dishon of Princeton, his brothers; Richard Yocum, Tom Lechner Jr. (Chris), John Lechner (Robbi), Perry Dishon (Connie), Kendall Dishon (Lori), Kerri Dishon, Gilbert Rowland (Karen), Franklin Rowland, Samuel Rowland, and John Rowland (Debbie), his sisters; Eileen Benedict (David), Bonnie Schwenk (Donnie), Roxanne Cockerill (Jim), Kim Basham (Don), Dina Lechner, Karen Dishon, Kathleen David (Doyle), and Colleen Abell (Dennis).
Preceding him in death were his parents, one guardian mother, Jeanette Dishon, and one sister Arleen Bess.
Funeral services for Roy A. Yocum will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville, IN, with burial to follow in the church cemetery in Schnellville, IN.
A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests you honor his memory by supporting those less fortunate through charitable acts or donations of your choice.
