Paul “Cotton” E. Singer, 85, Jasper
Paul “Cotton” E. Singer, 85, passed peacefully from this life at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.
Paul was born in Dubois County, Indiana, on December 31, 1934 to Hilbert and Ardella (Matheis) Singer. He married Lavella E. Fuhrman on October 25, 1969 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper, where they were both long-time faithful members. She preceded him in death on September 29, 2018.
Cotton and Lavella met as employees of Fritch’s Dutch Lunch, a well-known family eating establishment in Jasper. When they purchased the restaurant from the Fritch family along with Ron “Hammer” and Aletha Henke, it became “The Headquarters”. After retirement, they spent fifteen years enjoying the winter months at their home in Ft. Myers, FL.
He enjoyed golfing, watching all sports, his family, friends and neighborhood gatherings. During his earlier years, he excelled in all sports he participated in including basketball, softball, golfing and bowling and was on a championship sports team in the Army.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Post #147, and The Jasper Moose Lodge.
Paul was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1955-1958 in Germany after basic training in Kansas. He received a good conduct medal and was honorably discharged in April of 1958.
Surviving is a half-sister, Cindy (Lorey) Arbuckle, of Jasper, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his wife and parents, are a sister, Bonnie (Melvin) Bolin, Doris (Denny) Ackerman, and one great niece.
Funeral services for Paul E. Singer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper, with burial to follow at St. Paul Cemetery in Haysville. Pastor Adam Ruschau will officiate. American Legion Post #147 will conduct military grave site rights.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service time on Wednesday, December 23, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper.
