Mildred T. Vaal, 86, of St. Meinrad

Mildred T. Vaal, 86, of St. Meinrad, passed away on, February 18, 2020 at her home in St. Meinrad.

Mildred was born September 20, 1933 in Dubois to Fred and Leona (Schepers) Humbert. She married Harold A. Vaal on June 11, 1955 in St. Raphael Church in Dubois. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1997. Mildred was retired from General Electric after 37 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and has been to all 50 states.

She liked Crossword puzzles and Word Searches. Mildred was very happy to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed cooking plenty of food for everyone.

After retiring she often baby-sat for her grandkids. When her husband Harold became ill, Mildred became his caregiver throughout his illness.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Michael (Wendy) Vaal and Rodney (Mary Agnes) Vaal all of St. Meinrad; seven daughters, Donna (Dennis) Foertsch and Denise (Randy) Lambeck all of Evanston, Charlene Nowotny and Sharon and companion Dennis Mulzer all of St. Meinrad, Charlotte (Rodney) Hinton of Tell City, Darlene Brown and Fiance John Metzler of Dale, Sheila (David) Lahee of Santa Claus; a brother, Norbert (Veronica) Humbert of Huntingburg; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren and two more on the way.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Vaal; a grandson, Christopher Schwindel; four brothers, Richard, Fred Jr., Maurice and Eugene Humbert; four sisters, Mary Merkel, Elizabeth Schepers, Anna Merkel and Mathilda Kern.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 25th at 10:00 AM CT in St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday, February 24th from 1-7:00 PM CT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and also on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 AM CT until time of services.
