Mary L. Armstrong, age 85 of Jasper

Mary L. Armstrong, age 85 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 4:03 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, IN.  


Mary was born in Velpen, Indiana on February 10, 1936 to Andrew and Josephine (Wright) Ross.  She married Howard E. Armstrong on January 9, 1956. He preceded her in death on September 6, 2000.


She began her career in production at local factories in Jasper. She later got her associates degree as a CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) and worked for several doctors offices in Dubois County. She was extremely active as a volunteer at the Crisis Connection in Jasper. She was known for her cookies at their bake sales. She was well-liked by customers and employees at Wal-Mart where she spent her later years as a greeter.  When her parents passed away, she assumed guardianship over her siblings ensuring all three had a fulfilling life.   


She enjoyed staying busy. She was a very active lady who was also involved in her grandchildren's lives.  She enjoyed fishing trips with her grandchildren, baking and gardening. No matter how tired she was, she always had time for her grandchildren.


She was an active member of the Indiana State AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants). She became president of the organization and traveled all over the United States for their conventions. She was a Jehovah's witness at Kingdom Hall in Jasper.


Surviving is one daughter; Ann Armstrong, Jasper, IN, one sister; Sylvia Ross, Jasper, IN, one daughter-in-law, Naydine Armstrong, Loogootee, IN, five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, three sister-in-laws; Judy Crane, Esther Grundhoefer and Linda Beard.  


Preceding her death was one son; Bill Armstrong, one daughter; Wanda Ross, who died in infancy, two brothers; Gary and Raymond Ross and one sister; Agnes Ross, three brothers and two sisters who died in infancy.


Funeral  services for Mary L. Armstrong will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27th, 2021 at the Becher Kluesner Funeral Home North Chapel in Jasper. Pastor David Chinn will officiate.  Burial will follow the service at Mount Zion Cemetery in Ireland, Indiana.  


A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the 1:00 p.m. service time at the Becher Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.


Masks and social distancing are recommended.
