Levinus "Red" Bayer, age 77 of Jasper

Levinus "Red" Bayer, age 77 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:06 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at home.
 
Red was born in St. Anthony, Indiana on June 19, 1941 to Jacob and Bertha (Gundel) Bayer.  He married Lucinda "Cindy" Merkley on November 15, 1975 in Jasper.  She preceded him in death on April 16, 2010.
 
He retired from Uebelhor and Sons as a mechanic. 
 
Red was a race car driver and mechanic, and enjoyed watching his sons and grandsons take over his thrill of the sport of racing.  For past time he worked on lawnmowers and loved going to shooting matches.  He loved getting together with family and friends to play skip-bo, dominos, and doing word find search puzzles.
 
Surviving are six daughters, Marla Wineinger (Terry), Dubois, Staci Hanselman (Mike), Ireland, Nicki Chandler (Brian), Santa Claus, Tara Seifert (Duane), Jasper, Tina O'Donnell (Dave), North Syracuse, NY, and Sandy Blair (Greg), Constantia, NY,  five sons, Jeff Merkley (Cheryl), Jasper, Kevin Bayer (Tara), Ireland, Brian Bayer (Kristy), Birdseye, Vanis Bayer (Kim), Jasper, and Scott Bayer (Leeann), Liverpool, NY,  24 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, two brothers, Donald Bayer (Della) and Ronald Bayer (Betty), and two sisters, Matilda Sturgeon and Loretta Jean Underhill (Dencil). 
 
Preceding him in death beside his wife was one son, Steven Bayer and one granddaughter, Abby Beckman, four brothers, Floyd, Lloyd, Irvin, and Chester Bayer, and three sisters, Kathleen Crawford, Pauline Lane, and Ardella Pulley.
 
Funeral services for Levinus "Red" Bayer will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.  Rev. Rodney Bayer will officiate.
 
A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper.   
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, St. Vincent's Hospital Foundation in Care of Abby's Corner, the family wishes, or a favorite charity.
