Charles M. “Bud” Halbert, 80, of Loogootee

Charles M. “Bud” Halbert, 80, of Loogootee, passed away at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Eastgate Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born October 4, 1941, in Loogootee, Indiana to the late Joseph and Lydia (Butcher) Halbert. 

For over 45 years Bud was employed by Perry Water Systems Inc. as the superintendent. During those years he was awarded the John N. Hurty Service Award for 25 years of service and for being in good standing with the State of Indiana. He was a lifetime member of the Indiana Rural Water Association and was honored by them with the Prime Mover Award in 1990. He also held a Water Works Operator certificate from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. He was a member of the Loogootee United Methodist Church. 

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lydia Halbert; brother, John (Cora) Halbert; sisters, Bernice (Bud) Williams, Beatrice Caton, Pauline (Jesse) Owens and Esther (Robert) Billings; sister-in-law, Judy Wease; brother-in-law, Larry Strawn. 

He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Strawn), who he married on March 3, 1962; brothers-in-law, Mike (Millie) Strawn of Florida and Tony Wease of Loogootee; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Strawn of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews. 

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be held in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Martin County Humane Society.
